Mission Committee
This month our church will be participating in the World Mission Offering. This is the first of four denominational offerings we receive throughout the program year. Through this offering, we are able to assist our many missionaries assigned throughout the world. Their work, in distant places, often goes unnoticed this does not mean it is un-important. Such is the work of Karen Smith in Thailand who recently wrote this:
“Jane, a child in Thailand, endured more in her young life than most of us
could ever imagine. She was dragged from job to job, forced to sweep floors
and wash dishes. Then at age 13, she overheard her mother trying to sell her
into slavery. She escaped and eventually found her way to the New Life Center
and, over time, came to know Jesus Christ, overcame her bitterness and hurt,
and found it in her heart to forgive her mother.”
It has been said that while we cannot change the world, we also cannot do nothing; we can, and do, save lives. Though your support of our World Mission Offering we make a critical difference in the lives of thousands of individuals like Jane because we support missionaries like Karen Smith who offer a new life, a good life while sharing with them the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Please support the World Mission Offering this month. Special offering envelops are available in the pew racks in our Sanctuary

Thank you to everyone who helped out on our opening day of the 20072008 Sunday School Year, September 9, 2007. A Newsletter and At Home Leaflet #1 were also mailed out to all of our Sunday School Families, and we hope that our families can make use of these for review of the lessons learned in Sunday School each week. At Home Leaflet #2 will be sent out to use for October 14.

Finance Committee
With September “in the book,” we saw unfavorable financial performance this month. While many income sources did not measure up to budget, the most serious shortfalls were in our primary income sources: pledges and gifts. Together they fell $1,500 short of expected income. Please review your giving with an eye toward helping us meet our budget plan. Thank you all for your continuing support!

All Church Fair
The Annual All Church Fair will be held on Saturday, November 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will be looking for help from everyone to make this another successful ef-fort. Our plan is to set-up for the fair directly after the Fellowship time on Sunday, Oc-tober 27. Again we will be looking for young people and those who are strong to help with tables, chairs and furniture moving.
Pat Knowlton has offered to be the Pie Night Chairperson. She will need help-ers to mix spices and peel apples and to finish the peeling, assemble the pies and ei-ther take or bake. If you can donate pie plates, ingredients, already-made dough from our secret recipe, or apples, please let her know. There will be a sign-up sheet on the clock table for the donation of all the ingredients. Pie making dates are Wednesday and Thursday October 31 and November 1.
We hope each family can donate one or more baked good items to the bake sale table. Please, be sure to make these items from scratch and bring them by on Fri-day. We will again be selling our hot pepper jelly, homemade jams, beans and baked goods. New items, services or special items are needed for our Silent Auction. Please contact Cyndy Engvall if you have a donation. Also remember to save items for the Attic Treasures table, save your unwanted but good jewelry for the Jewelry Table, plant pots for the Plant Table, your kitchen's specialty for the Bake Table, and lots of energy to be an active part of this year’s fair.
Chefs Bert Engvall, May Goff and Roma Dearness will be serving up mouth watering food from the snack bar. They are looking for monetary donations to help defray the cost of this very successful addition to our fair. They will buy the food, cook it and clean up what a great deal!!
Our Drawffle is in its third year. No, that is not a spelling mistake. You can buy a ticket for the opportunity to win one of several very special items. These include a tree from the Engvall Tree Farm, a Grafton Afghan, a doll house, an oil painting done by a local artist, a hanging quilt, and a few other outstanding items. When you purchase a ticket you will also be buying a treat so even if you don’t win one of these items you’ll still have something for your money.
Please remember to invite your friends and neighbors to come to the fair. They can enjoy a wonderful hot meal at the snack bar, get some unique dried flower arrangements, buy some jams, jellies, pies and delicious Baptist Baked goods, bid on an item in the silent auction, bring home a plant or a book to read, a treasure from the attic, or a warm sweater, or Christmas craft. Encourage everyone to buy a drawffle ticket and get a treat in return! Don’t forget that there will be a table for youngsters where they can decorate cookies with or purchase a gently used toy.
